REVATECH / Processes / Solidification

A TECHNIQUE WITH A LONG HISTORY OF DEVELOPMENT AND USE

REVATECH has been using a solidification process since the early 1980s. At that time it was the first in Belgium.
The former ATECH company (now one of the REVATECH divisions) originally acquired a license for the PETRIFIX process from the Tredi company in France.

STILL BEING DEVELOPED TODAY

New formulations and a new process have been developed. In fact, PETRITECH is constantly being further refined by REVATECH, leading to:

• greater homogeneity of the materials treated;

• lower consumption of reagents.

In this way, the objectives for reducing the amount of final residues that have to be disposed of in a landfill have now been achieved.

HOW IT WORKS

The industrial wastes to be processed, generally in the form of solid or thick sludge, are mixed with hydraulic binders and other additives.
This treatment enables the various pollutants to be fixed both physically and chemically.
After sufficient reaction time of a few weeks or so, the waste becomes chemically stable and has good mechanical strength, enabling it to be buried quite safely.

APPLICATIONS

Solidification techniques are particularly suited for dealing with solid mineral waste or sludge that is polluted by heavy metals or traces of organic compounds and hydrocarbons, for which incineration and other methods are not appropriate.
